"And she is pleased to meet you."
THAT was what I was going to say, but instead, I just shut up.
"YOU LOSER!" Mary shouted before bursting away. Adam stood there, baffled, one hand holding his face which had been slapped.
"Okaaaay..." I tried to figure out what was going on. "I told you, you could win the award for 'The Most Hideous'."
"And I believed you." Adam said, exasperated. He looked down and dropped the can of beer, slowly, he strode away from me. And I was left alone, in the middle of a fierce, sweaty and dancing crowd. It was like he knew her.
And she knew him.
And she knew him.
"Ugh," I groaned, "Time for another sandwich squeeze."
* * * *
"Okay, you SO completely owe me an explanation. Not because he's my brother but because I had to squeeze in again JUST to get to you." I said, holding the side of the door. Seriously, the crowd was so wild tonight. And I somehow figured that bikini wasn't a choice tonight by the time I was still squeezing in.
I walked in slowly. Mary was sitting at the same spot, beside her brother. But now, she was crying. Tears streaming down her cheeks, her nose red and puffy and she looked horrible. Her curls were matted on her forehead. She was a mess.
" I know that my brother is a mess but I didn't know the first impression would really give you the --" I started.
"NO."
"What?" I asked, stopping in my tracks. I circled my eyes and saw that nobody was around, so I stepped closer and dragged a chair across from them. Oscar's neck was still in the same position as I saw him last. That was peculiar.
"See this?" Mary asked, pointing to Oscar. I nodded, afraid to make any sort of noise. Mary's voice was soft but angry, and she made the point straight -- it wasn't Adam's appearance. "YOUR BROTHER made this."
I glanced at Oscar, he blinked and frowned. His eyelids flickered and the silence really disturbed me. "Made what?" I kept my hands tightly clutched, now trembling softly.
"Adam. He drugged my brother once in a party and then Oscar fell into the swimming pool, hit his neck against the wall, and after he was brought out and sent to the hospital, it couldn't be back to normal. And the drug never wore off, that's why he never talks, or does anything. What he wants, is just that." Mary explained clearly, not stopping for a breath. The tears in her eyes glistened, and her stare was cold and strong.
"Nonono." I started laughing, "Adam?"
She stayed silent.
"He's a wuss, Mary!" I said, looking at Oscar uncomfortably. "I mean, how would you know it was him? You don't even HAVE proof. Oscar hasn't even seen him out there he wouldn't have agreed with --"
"Then explain the whole transferring school without a reason and the secret he's sparing."
"WHAT? How can you just randomly think THAT'S the reason. You're nuts!"
"I'm nuts? Oh yeah, that's why I'm right here lying about everything like I was so free. And oh yeah, these tears are from EYE MO, too." She shouted, standing up. I looked at her and thought, what was she saying?!
My brother drugged Oscar. No offence but that is the corniest thing I have ever heard.
You could just tell me the truth that Adam's just horrendously ugly, I wouldn't be mad.
I promise!

"But that's unbelievable. He couldn't have drugged him. I bet he doesn't even KNOW what they are, the more drug somebody." I told her, keeping my head from spinning. Fear was overcoming me every second now, eating me alive. Adam drugged this little boy? ADAM?
"Maybe you just don't know him that well." Mary said and wheeled Oscar away from me. "And maybe? You should just go home." The both of them walked into another room.
"What? You're uninviting me now?" I asked, half sounding crazy.
Silence.
* * * *
"You are soo freakishly dead, big wuss." I dragged Adam out from the crowd he was with.
"Hey where you bringing him to?" someone from the crowd shouted.
"Hey where you bringing him to?" someone from the crowd shouted.
"I'ma be back!" Adam shouted back.
"No you won't!" I shouted at his face and dragged him harder, there was NO WHERE to bring him to. Everywhere was crowded. And packed with people.
Tonight is SO not a night for me, people were dancing but I was here, playing Nancy Drew with a brother and the craziness. "Let me go, you monster." he grumbled.
I looked around frantically, and found a spot under a fluorescent light. And there was a sign that said, 'Personnel only'.
I guess it was the tavern's kitchen or something. Dragging him, I slammed open the door. And unsurprisingly, there were bugs on the ground, up the wall, stuck between the windows. I didn't care, I'm just desperate for an answer. It's true when Mary mentioned this was a left-out cavern. And interestingly, there were mugs and a bowl of leftover food, nuts. And bugs were having fun in it, too.
"EWWWWW."
I pinned Adam against the wall, the wall where the bugs loved to hang out at. "WINNIE, EWWW GET ME OUTTA HERE! THERE'S BUGS ABOVE ME!"
"And you drugged her brother?" I glared at him, my voice above the whisper.
"Winnie, just lemmi go!" he pleaded, twisting his wrist from mine. His eyes started to avoid my gaze, I realized.
"You know that's just gotta hurt you, the twisting your wrist thing." I pinned him harder and at this anger rate, I could even burst his veins. "Answer me."
"Answer you what?!" he cussed. "Just let. Me. Go!"
"No way, man. Did you drug Oscar?" I tried once more, now cramping his arm and laying my whole body weight against his. "You know where this is going to."
"But the neck part wasn't my fault." he tried to compromise, hurt and shame in his eyes. Right now, he sounded like a dog. But I wasn't buying it. I'd never in a billion years thought that Adam, my brother, would drug someone.
And never in eons, would I ever thought, that I was destined to meet the sibling of the person Adam drugged. And this second thought would never happen so terribly, if my first thought was JUST a thought.
"So you DID drugged him?"
"AAAAAGH."
"DID YOU!?"
"AAAAAAAAAAAGH."
"Why?" My voice softened. I felt so hurt and just, overwhelmed. These things don't happen to normal people. These things are only in movies because that way the waterworks can start coming out from your eyes. These things are just, supposed to be, just things.
These things are not supposed to be equaled to reality.
These things are not supposed to be equaled to reality.
I let go of him and he instantly fell to the ground. He wrapped his head with his hand, whining softly and cussing to nobody in particular. I didn't get it straight, why he drugged him, why he drugged Mary's brother, why Mary was fated to be my best friend, how it would happen when I brought Adam tonight was to apologize and make it up to him, that he would once again forgive me, that we would be a family again even though he isn't completely human and I couldn't believe, that this could be happening, but I didn't care, I opened the door and fled, back to somewhere else, because I didn't even belong.
