Geek Chic 3

"You didn't have to tell me,mum. I already knew you were serious the first time." I said, slumping my bag on the couch of our crystal-quartz tiled living room.I've just returned from Bebe's house and my mum started the conversation as soon as she saw me coming into the house with,"You ARE transferring schools, you know?" as if yesterday's conversation was long forgotten."Oh gosh. Look at those ants crawling on the couch! What the -?" I pointed at the pink sofa. I looked around it, finding the cause."Winnie, get over it." I heard Adam coming down from the stairs. "I could hear you from upstairs freaking out about some ants."Freaking out!? Who's the one that's freaking out here? He's the one that NEEDED a school change JUST because somebody teased him. Now THAT'S a major freak. "Uhm, hahah? That was real funny, Adam. Go become a stand-up comedian." I said sarcastically, staring blankly at him."Whatever,"Adam rolled his eyes and walked up to Mum,"Mum, we're going to start tomorrow, right?"She nodded her head and sipped her coffee. Then, flipped another page of her oh-so-romantic novel which I now knew the name of. It's name was 'Live Love.' Corny much?I ran out of words.
"Mum, can you explain to me what's going on? Why is Adam so excited for a new school? Why do I have to tag along?" I asked, getting furious.Adam and Mum stopped doing what they were. Remember when I told you that when I got furious I looked, in smaller words, hideous? That's how I'm looking right now. I quickly recollect myself again. I fidgeted nervously for the answer since the both of them were still staring. "Er - HELLO!?""Oh," Earth to Mum, "Dear, you should really stop being mad. It's a little...er...disturbing." Yeah, like I didn't know. She sighed. "Sit down, you both." she ordered wearily. I couldn't blame her though, Adam must be heaving her loads of pressure with his cowardly acts.
Adam sat, I just stood. No way I'm gonna act like listen-to-mama-she's-teaching-you-stuff-in-life-like-why-I-should-change-school. I was still kinda grossed with the ants on the sofa, crawling. It's as if it were on my skin, UNDER my skin."Uhm, your brother has made a serious offense which I do not know of and will never will. And we don't want him to get expelled. You know, in case it leaves a red mark that will slim his chances into transferring into a new school," she breathed, "so since we still have time, why not grab the chance to change first before the school decides? Then it leaves no reason for them to kick Adam out.I mean, IF we changed before the school even knows about it, it can do nothing." She smiled. "So do it for your brother?""I-I-ugh?" I stammered. "Wait, first of all - I don't even know what's his SERIOUS OFFENSE," I mocked my mum,"and secondly, I do NOT wanna change school." I knew this wasn't going to work. It's already a fact I was going to change, so that's when I found myself alone in the new school the next morning.* * * *Bebe and Dame are going to drown me with a lot of questions if they knew why I haven't been present in school today. I mean, sure, if the excuse with 'I'm ill' can shut them off. But changing into a new school?"Cheer up, pucker." My brother said, nudging me when we were eating recess side by side. I didn't even know a BURGER could cost 5 bucks. In my previous school, it was only 2. Gosh. "Shut up Adam, you brought me into this." I bit the meat off the burger and started to crunch vehemently.Let me retell you 'my story of terror', I could have sworn it was worse than World War 2. (Okay, I'm exaggerating) First of all, I woke up this morning, thankful that I was still alive, and climbed out of bed. Only to know that transferring school was today, and was real. So I jumped into bed again, but I COULDN'T SLEEP. And my brother so RUDELY came into my room without a knock and start calling me 'pucker'. I don't even know what that is.Then we took a bus to school, which only reminded me of ' Oh My Gosh, I'm Gonna Be In A New School' for the 100th time. Then I walked into this vast school painted with yellow paint and walked into my class, only to know, it was the toilet. How did I know?! It wrote A1. Now that I've mentioned it, A1 is only accessible for the 7th graders. ONLY.It was like, Hey-Party-For-The-13-year-olds-only sorta toilet. Insane. Then I had a clue my class was nearby since the toilet was, but only to know it was 2 floors UP. And the toilet was two floors down. See, haven't I told you it was worse than WW2?Then when I stormed into the class, since I was proned to mood swings, I was greeted by my fellow classmates with, "Yucks, she's ugly." expressions. How nice, eh? "Have you look at yourself in the mirror lately!?" I shouted back to the class. Only to know,I was supposed to be in the OTHER class. Which adds up to: I've went into the toilet thinking it was my class, and ran into the 7th grade class(Gold) and insulted them and THEN finding out it WASN'T my class and oh yeah, I've made new archenemies. YAYYY.So fine, I've done everything to add everything in my brain plus a little courage to walk into the NEXT class, Platinum. So I tuckered up a bit and smiled, turning the door knob. As I entered, everything was dead silent. So I thought, THIS IS HEAVEN. BUT, everyone started laughing all at once. "Retard!" someone shouted. ME!?"Good morning, Winnie." the teacher greeted. Was that some illusion or did I just see the teacher laughing along, too? I sighed. "Whatever." I muttered and drop into an empty desk.* * * *"Ignore them.""Huh?" I looked around."Oh, right, I'm Mary." I looked beside me. I smiled weakly. Just in case if she were going to laugh her head off when I start communicating with her and call me 'anti-social' or 'social-freak'."No,I'm not going to laugh at you." she said, laughing a little. Her hair was frizzly and brown, and she had a nice skin complexion. Tanned. Her eyes were really big and beautiful. Nice girl, she must be. And her smile was really genuine."Well you just did." I laughed back. That lighten the atmosphere immediately."Look, these kids? They're not usually like this. They're just," Mary explained, turning around to look at the others,"a little hyped today. God knows why." she shrugged.Yeaaah, right. I bet this girl's gone far too soft-hearted. "Sure,"I nodded compassionately. "I mean,it's alright. I don't get them but I don't want to.""Okay cool. So you're Winnie, right?" she asked, returning back to her work but continued to talk. Maths was on now, and the teacher didn't look a bit interested in whatsoever we're doing at all. That explains the noise the others are making."Oww!" Something poked me. I opened my eyes wide. Stupid paper plane. Í plucked it out of my unlucky hair and gingerly dropped it on the floor.
Looking around, I fazed off again. The walls were light green and it was small. I heard her clear her throat.
"Yeah, I am Winnie. I live 2 miles away from Benedict Streets.""Whoaaa." She went again. "That's far, man." She SOO didn't know. "Yeah,I mean - we have to wake at 5!" I shook my head. I took out my sweater as the AC was really on full-blast."We?" she emphasized. Oh, my bro. "Yeah, me and my bro. He's Adam, he's 15. He ain't cute so don't count on it." I said as I was squeezing into my P.A sweater. Adam wasn't freckled or anything since we're Chinese plus American. Chinese American.Adam had brown honey-glazed hair and small eyes. Oh, and a VERY VERY unfathomable and annoying personality to top up his uncute looks. I know, he's still my brother but well, if he treated me much better,I wouldn't be so harsh."Ohh, haha! I wasn't gonna hit on him, for the Love of Cookies." She laughed, then stopped and stared back at my sweater. "P.A...,fanciful."And that's how I ended up in recess with my uncute brother."Look Win, stop acting grumpy and all." Adam continued lecturing, "It's not gonna help you in any sorts of way."I kept quiet watching him chew his food and seeing the eeky-yucky thingy in his mouth when he starts talking. Shuddering, I closed to eyes."I mean, I had fun with my friends." he chewed. FRIENDS?! Who were his friends? I wanted to laugh out loud."Yeah, if you had friends, I believe you wouldn't be sitting with your 7th grade sister during recess, correct?" I chomped my burger, looking at it, not Adam. Because I knew what his reaction was going to be.
"Erm...?""I don't really care. What counts is just YOU don't fake it." My voice raising, "WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN OUR LAST PREVIOUS SCHOOL?!"Keep the expression...keep the expression..."Huh?!""What did they tease you about,Adam?" My heart was pumping faster. I really wanted to know, now. I can't take this."Nothing! Just eat your burger. I just think that the education's standard there is lower." he explained calmly. HAH! Lower? Have you seen this place here? It's lower than a dumpster. Okay, that wasn't logical.* * * *I got home and had so many text messages on my cell phone, the inbox was almost full."Where the heck are you?""Are you sick?!""Why aren't you answering?!""Oh gosh, no no no, are you DEAD?!"That was so Dame-ish.I texted back, "No, I'm not dead, silly. I've changed school. The new one at Benedict."Then,I texted Bebe, "I've transferred school."I got two texts at the same time."YOU'RE KIDDING.""No,I'm not." I answered the phone call. We were having 3 in 1 phone call. Dame gasped. "Oh my since when?!" he asked."Since today, Dame. Remember? I was in school last Friday, also." I said slowly. Silence. "Are you dead now?""Nope. Just shocked." Dame replied back."Be?" I asked, now a little concerned of what this friend will say or feel. I couldn't sense her emotions since she's on the other end."Yep?" she answered. I could hear some noises in the background."You're baking in the middle of the night!?" I asked, shocked that she was calm. Silence."Yeah, why?" she asked, now the background changed into some other sounds. "You want me to be calm, right?"Well, part of me wanted and part of me didn't."Uh, sure." In the corner of my eyes, I saw Mum sitting at the edge of my bed. She wanted to talk."Hey I've got to go. Text you two later." I hung up."Yeah, Mum?" I climbed onto my bed, "Are you going to tell me I'll be migrating to Greenland next?" Oh Please God,No."Your humor kills me." She replied, then she touched my hair. "Look, I know it's hard and I'm sorry. But it's for your brother, no one wants him to have a ruined future. You know that he's talented.""But what have he done?" I asked Mum,earnestly. She shrugged. "We should respect him. So don't bug him with that question. When he's ready, I believe he'll spill the beans.""So..." she changed the topic, looking a little more cheerful,"How was school?"I now realized that if it's hard for me, it should be harder for my mum. I mean, poor her. A Mum should know everything that's going on. Especially something as big as Adam's story."Well, lots of stuff. But they're okay, I guess.""Alright then. Goodnight, have some good rest. I'll see you in the morning and I'll make you a plate of pancakes." she smiled. Then she walked to the light and switched it off. I grab the duvet and fluffed my pillow. Then I drop down onto it. Comfy...In my thoughts were what Adam has done. Sure, I won't bother him anymore. But I was going to find out. Then my thoughts were interrupted by my text message alarm,
So how about your assignment? =D
Dame.
I don't quite know, either. But I knew Dame was chilled and calm with the whole 'I've-changed-my-school' thing with that '=D' emotion. That's what made him so awesome. I text back,It's in your hands, then.
I know you want it. (: Good night, ily.
Winnie.
Yeah, he wanted it. I switched off the phone. Why was Bebe so calm then? What am I gonna do with my new terrible school?!I'm not going to enjoy my school life without my friends, and I knew it.Until what happened the next day, that totally got me off guard.
