Geek Chic 10

"Nooo..." I said slowly through the phone, "He just bought me because he bumped me like, thrice?"
"Uh-huh." Cece replied, sounding excited, "and it's a craa-ushhh... Come on, don't deny it!"
I actually don't know, was it really a crush? Did I even like him? Sure I said his eyes were hazel and big and good-looking, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't have feelings for him. Did he?
"Well, whatever." I answered, giving up, "I don't have any feelings for him. So just, leave it."
There was a quick silence.
"You...," Cece started, now sounding a little worried, "like Dame, don't you?"
"NO!" I shrieked in the phone. "Wait, are you thinking that because of Dame I'd rather give up Ian?"
"Yeah? Hey anyway Mum and Dad just got back, I have to go. Bye!"

I stayed up late that night, watching an old blockbuster, with popcorn, and an imaginary friend right beside me. His name is DODO. He's an inverter and a liaison in both reality and imaginary, and he doesn't talk much.
I've never actually watched movies like, let's say, X-Men or all those crazed movies. It's just something that doesn't suit, like Ian. Ian's sweet and all, but in truth, I've known him for 3 days? That couldn't be the duration that I'd immediately fall for him.
"Hey! Switch it off, we're trying to sleep here." Dad shouted, slamming the door again. I turned down the volume. It was a stupid show, where the boy meets girl and becomes a jerk when he met another lady. Another UGLIER one. Boys are so stupid.
Adam haven't started talking to me, and I kind of missed it. Of course I didn't actually tell him that, but I'd know he'd already realized it by now? So why isn't he going like, "Hey pucker." or annoy me?
I switched off the television when the clock turned one, there was still school tomorrow. And watching until this late was also an attention-seeking thing. My parents are supposed to stop me from watching this late, but instead, they went to sleep at 10.
It's unbelievable.

The next windy morning, something told me it was gonna be a great day. The flowers were blooming and I had an interview today, to be the school's editor in the papers. The beautiful silence walking down the aisle of the school was abruptly disturbed by a group of prima donnas. I walked past them and accidentally brushed shoulders with the leader of the PDs. She stared at me coldly, her hair streaked pink and her make-up over the top.
I looked at her quizzically. What does she want? I'm not giving her anything so back off.
In a split second, her stare softened. "Aren't you Ian's crush?" she asked, one eyebrow popped up. Crush?
"Uhm, crush? I wouldn't exactly sayyy...that." I replied, walking backwards. I really had to go to Ms. Nelson's office.
"Yeah, whatever." she rolled her eyes and gestured a girly movement. "Well, are you interested in netball?"
I actually was, indeed. At least I had some skills during my previous' school's training.
"Okay. I'm in." I said, shaking her hand. "By the way, my name's Winnie."
She smirked, "I know."

I closed the door behind me carefully. Ms. Nelson's eyes were still glued on a piece of paper. She looked dull than before, and she looked so bad. Bad hair day for her, I guess.
"G'morning Ms. Nelson." I greeted, walking towards her.
"Oh!" she jumped, she finally stopped looking from the paper to me, "interview, right?"
"Yeah," I answered, "I just - "
"You're in for the job." She interjected, and it carved a smile on my face.
